Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
FAQs about the Usawa Afya – Balance Health Initiative.
Usawa Afya is a health and wellness organization focused on preventing lifestyle diseases, promoting mental health, and strengthening health systems across Africa through fitness, education, and policy advocacy.
Africa is facing a rise in non-communicable diseases (like diabetes and hypertension) alongside challenges such as poor nutrition, limited fitness facilities, and mental health stigma. Usawa Afya was created to bring practical, affordable solutions closer to communities.
Everyone. Our initiatives are designed for all ages and backgrounds from school children and young professionals to community leaders, workplaces, and policy-makers.
We focus on five areas:
NCD Prevention (screenings, lifestyle change programs)
Community Fitness (low-cost or free exercise classes, mobile tools)
Health Education (nutrition workshops, school wellness programs)
Mental Health Support (peer networks, leader training)
Policy Advocacy (Health Policy Watch, evidence-based recommendations)
We bring health solutions directly to communities — in schools, workplaces, community halls, and even homes. We also provide mobile and online tools for self-guided wellness.
Through our Health Policy Watch, we collect and share community-level evidence with decision-makers to influence policies, budgets, and national health strategies.
